A couple of weeks ago we had our youngest child, Evelyn, tested for food sensitivities. We had suspected a dairy allergy for over a year and had almost completely cut dairy out of our diet. However, her eczema had not completely cleared up and she almost always has a snotty nose and congestion. We attributed the snotty nose and congestion to environmental allergies. We decided to have her tested, especially since the insurance will cover it until she is 4. On her 3 yr. well visit we had her tested. The results came back much sooner than we expected. We have an appointment at the end of April to discuss the results with her doctor.
But until then we will be making MAJOR dietary changes. Evelyn's environmental allergy test results came back all negative. She is not even allergic to pollen, lucky! However, her food sensitivity results showed her being sensitive to 21 different foods. About half of them were mild sensitivities and the other half were more severe. Her major allergens were: wheat, yeast, rice, millet, oats, coconut, mustard, dill seed, and caraway seed. Some of the other allergens are Bananas, eggs, and cranberries. (I don't have the list with me.) She was NOT sensitive to dairy!
We are glad we know the source of her allergies, but it means major changes for our family. We will be starting a grain-free and gluten-free diet on Monday. We will also be eliminating eggs from our diet. I am completely overwhelmed with this big change, but I know it is crucial to Evelyn's health.
I am interested to see what here doctor says about the results. They encouraged us to go ahead and make dietary changes based on the results. I know some of our out there are gluten-free and grain-free.
If you have a blog or suggestions please leave your contact/blog information in the comments. We would appreciate prayers as we being this journey. We pray that these changes will clear up Evelyn's health issues.
